If you want to race this weekend, two very different options are on the calendar. The Chief Seattle Days 5K offers a local Sunday morning run in Suquamish. The nearby Olympic Mountains Trail Races offer distances from 10K to 100K on mountain trails near Quilcene.
Your choice may come down to travel, terrain, cost, preparation and registration timing. Here is what the official sources said when checked on August 10, 2026, along with the details you should verify before you commit.

Chief Seattle Days 5K: the local option
The official Chief Seattle Days schedule lists the 5K Fun Run for Sunday at 9 a.m. It starts and finishes at the House of Awakened Culture, 7235 NE Parkway in Suquamish.
The 5K section does not print a calendar date next to “Sunday.” Other parts of the official festival schedule identify the weekend as August 14–16, 2026, but Kitsap Runner is not assigning a calculated date to the race without direct organizer confirmation. Check with Chief Seattle Days before relying on a calendar date.
The listed entry price is $25 per person. The page says payment may be made by cash, check or card. It does not explain whether runners can register online, sign up early or enter only at the event. It also does not provide a registration deadline, packet pickup time or check-in instructions.
The organizer describes a course that passes cultural heritage locations including Chief Seattle’s Grave and Old Man House Park. Because this is part of a Suquamish Tribe event, participants should follow organizer directions and approach the setting respectfully.
Awards are listed for elders age 55 and older, adults ages 19–54, and youth age 18 or younger. The first finisher in each listed group receives a commemorative blanket. Children must run on their own to qualify for an award. The page notes that children in strollers do not qualify for awards, but it does not provide broader stroller or course-access rules.
Choose the 5K if you want:
- A race in Kitsap County rather than a drive to the Olympic Peninsula.
- A single 5K distance instead of a longer mountain event.
- A community run connected to the Chief Seattle Days weekend.
- A lower listed entry price.
Before you go, ask the organizer how and when to register, when check-in opens, where participants should park and whether there are any course restrictions. The official contact listed for Chief Seattle Days is ChiefSeattleDays@suquamish.nsn.us.
Olympic Mountains: the trail option near Quilcene
The Olympic Mountains Trail Races organizer lists races on Saturday, August 15, and Sunday, August 16. This is a nearby Olympic Peninsula event, not a Kitsap County race.
Saturday includes the 100K at 5 a.m. and the 50K run and 50K Ruck at 9 a.m. Sunday includes the 25K Ruck at 7 a.m., 25K run at 8 a.m. and 10K at 9 a.m.
Do not choose based on distance alone. Even the shortest event is a mountain trail race. The organizer lists the 10K as 6.56 miles with about 1,115 feet of climbing and descent. Its surface is described as 52% single-track trail and 48% fire roads. The 25K, 50K and 100K have progressively greater climbing, longer cutoff times and more detailed support requirements.
The current UltraSignup page says registration closes Tuesday, August 11, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific. Registration appeared open when checked on August 10, but that does not confirm available capacity in every distance. Review the live registration form before planning your trip or paying for lodging.
UltraSignup lists race-week prices of $55 for the 10K, $95 for the 25K run or ruck, $155 for the 50K run or ruck, and $255 for the 100K. The page contains mixed wording about how taxes and processing fees are displayed, so confirm the full total in your cart before paying.
Travel requires extra planning
Race headquarters is in Olympic National Forest, about 12 miles from Highway 101 near Quilcene. The organizer says there is no street address. Its directions use several forest roads and warn that the road is rough in places.
The organizer also cautions that cell service drops after leaving Highway 101 and that navigation apps may not provide reliable directions. Download or print the organizer’s turn-by-turn instructions before leaving home. Allow more time than a normal paved-road trip would require.
Packet pickup is listed for Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday participants also have distance-specific race-morning pickup periods. Pickup for Sunday’s races opens at 6 a.m. Review the current race manual and schedule for the instructions that apply to your distance.
Camping is included with registration, according to the organizer. Tents, camper vans and small recreational vehicles are permitted, but the site has portable toilets and no other facilities or water. Dogs are not allowed at race headquarters or on the course.
Choose Olympic Mountains if you are prepared for:
- A trail event with meaningful climbing, including in the 10K.
- An early start and travel on forest roads.
- Limited cell service near race headquarters.
- Following distance-specific cutoff, gear and race-manual requirements.
- Registering by the posted August 11 deadline, if your distance remains available.
What to verify before making your decision
For the Chief Seattle Days 5K, confirm the calendar date, registration method, check-in time, parking plan and any participation rules. Those details were not fully posted in the 5K section on August 10.
For Olympic Mountains, check live registration availability and the final checkout price. Registered runners should also read the current manual, save the driving directions and verify packet pickup for their distance.
The two events serve different race-week plans. The Suquamish 5K keeps you local and places the run within a larger community celebration. Olympic Mountains offers multiple trail distances but asks for more preparation, travel time and comfort with remote mountain terrain.
